A GOOD LAUGH WITH THE DRAMA PRINCESS
by Chuck Gomez
Star Studio, April 2001

JUDY ANN Santos is one of our very few young divas but the thing is she’s not even aware of that. “Sina Regine,
Pops, at Zsa Zsa ang mga diva ‘no at hindi ako,” she candidly states during our photo shoot.

Indeed, she’s one of Star Studio’s favorite subjects because Judai, as well as the people around her, is so easy to work with. An interview with her is always a blast - she has her own way of telling funny anecdotes which she describes as one of her gifts and a diversion of sorts. Judy Ann is a natural comedian in real life; she’s the undisputed drama princess but only in the movies and on TV.

“Sa dami ng work ko, one of the things that I do to relax is to laugh and laugh and laugh. I’m really into funny stuff and besides, sa dami ng problema natin, mas nakakabuti yung tumatawa na lang di ba.”

The young actress says that all the hard work she has put in her career has been worth it. At 22 she is confident that her future, as well as her family’s, is quite secure. Everything has been taken into account - from insurance to investments of her earnings from showbiz.

“Siyempre inuna ko muna yung mga importante mare,” says Judai. “I made sure that we have a good and decent home, you know yung mga ganung bagay. Kasi ang pangaral sa akin nina Tito Alfie at ni mommy, dapat maging secure ang future ko at hindi mapunta sa wala ang mga pinaghirapan ko.”

Though nothing makes her happier than showbiz, there are also moments when she misses the simple things that she used to do before she became a big star.

Like most of us, Judai wants to stroll in the malls, watch movies and listen to music. These are things she seldom does now for lack of time and opportunity. Still she continues to love music. Incidentally, her second album is doing very well and is about to turn platinum.

She is currently busy with the shoot of her movie called Luv-Text. But did you know that she recently acquired a new restaurant, Kilimanjaro (on Timog Avenue, QC). So she now joins the handful of stars who have also ventured into business.
